ACI 301 and 318 specifies different ways to proportion concrete mixes that meet the ACI 318 building code.  Ready mix suppliers and quality control personnel will learn how designers determine the concrete property specifications and the best way to develop concrete mixes for submittals.  Designers will learn what to look for in concrete submittals.

  • Learn what properties ACI 318 requires for a concrete mix specification.
  • Learn the different ways ACI 301 allows concrete mix proportions to be determined.
  • Learn what to look for when approving a concrete mix submittal.



Jeff Groom is a Senior Principal Engineer at CTL|Thompson Materials Engineers in Denver, CO.  He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Wyoming.  After graduating Jeff went to work at CTL|Thompson specializing in testing of concrete related materials including cement, aggregates, and supplementary cementitious materials.  In addition, Jeff performs forensic analysis of concrete and concrete construction. Jeff has recently returned to CTL after spending twelve years in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.  The first eight years were spent in the construction industry where he worked on military projects in the Marshall Islands and Diego Garcia.  His last four years in the Pacific. Jeff was the Office Manager for an international design firm on the island of Guam. Jeff is a member of ASTM Committee C09, ACI, and is on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association.  In addition, Jeff serves on the Education Advisory Board for the World of Concrete and has been a regular speaker at World of Concrete for over 15 years.  He is a past president of the Rocky Mountain Chapter ACI (1993).
