About the Awards Program

The American Concrete Institute is a global organization dedicated to the advancement of concrete technology through research and education.  The Las Vegas Chapter ACI brings this same education and advancement of concrete technology to Southern Nevada.  As part of that mission the Las Vegas Chapter ACI hosts the Excellence in Concrete Awards.  The program recognizes excellence in architectural and structural design as well as the unique, innovative, and sustainable uses of concrete in Southern Nevada construction projects. 

Project Recognition

The Las Vegas Chapter of ACI (LVACI) will recognize your professional accomplishments with the 2020 Excellence in Concrete Award.  The award winners will be recognized at The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Engineering Week Banquet on Saturday,  February 22, 2020. The designated project team member for each project category will be presented with an attractive Excellence in Concrete Award plaque at the ceremony.  All projects submitted and the winners will receive recognition at the LVACI March lunch meeting.

The LVACI will send press releases to local and national industry related publications including the American Concrete Institute's Concrete International magazine. The LVACI Board of Directors will select local project  winners, the number at its discretion, for nomination to the ACI National 2020 Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards.  The projects  will compete in an international competition with awardees being recognized at the 2020 ACI Fall Concrete Convention and Exposition in Raleigh, NC.

Eligibility

Nominations will be accepted for projects completed in Las Vegas and the surrounding area from April 6, 2017 through December 31, 2019.

  • Nominations are accepted from any person/firm involved in the project

  • Project can utilize any type of Portland cement concrete including shotcrete, self-consolidating, roller compacted, pervious.

  • Project construction can be standard forming, tilt-up, pre-cast, shotcrete, or cast-in-place

  • Projects constructed in phases are eligible for competition at the completion of each phase as well as at the time of completion of the overall project.

Project categories

Submittals are invited in the following categories:

  • Low-Rise Buildings* - Up to three stories

  • Mid-Rise Buildings* - Four to fifteen stories

  • High-Rise Buildings* - More than fifteen stories
    *Residential (single and multi-family), schools, commercial, mixed-use buildings, hotels, casinos, warehouses, industrial, etc.

  • Infrastructure - Bridges, water resource structures, marine structures, transportation structures, parking structures

  • Decorative Concrete - Exterior and interior finishes, skate parks, water parks, ornamentation, countertops, etc.

  • Repair and Restoration - Any building or structure that has been restored or repaired

Judging

An invited panel of professionals from the engineering, construction, concrete, and design disciplines will evaluate the project entries and select the winning project in each category.  The decision of the judges is final.  The LVACI and judging panel reserve the right to move an entry to another category and to present special merit awards. Entries will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Innovative construction techniques or solutions

  • Innovative use of materials

  • Engineering merit

  • Architectural merit

  • Sustainability and resilience

  • Functionality and end use suitability
